Sell : Head Lettuce

Head Lettuce is believed to be a selected form of the bitter-leaved wild species (Lactuca serriola) found throughout Europe, Asia, and North Africa. The ancient Egyptians were said to have been the first to cultivate lettuce, and, interestingly, believed it to be an aphrodisiac. They also used lettuce along with fresh beef, frankincense, and juniper berries as a "remedy" for stomachaches.

Named for its suggestively round shape, head lettuce prefers a cool environment of around 15~20 degrees Celsius. Indonesia’s tropical mountain range area has proven to be very suitable for the propagation of lettuce. At present, as a result of professional plantations, head lettuce is produced on a small-medium scale in Indonesia’s high mountain-regions.

Preparation / Usage

After cleansing, eat lettuce fresh in salads, in stir-fries, or in soups.
